A stray dog with an incredible basketball playing ability and A new boy eventually become instant friends. Rebounding from his father's accidental death, 12-year-old Josh Framm moves to the town of Fernfield, Washington with his family. The new kid in the town is too timid to try out for the college soccer team and has no friends. Instead he prefers to practice on a left handed court, he befriends a golden retriever named Buddy. Josh is astonished when he realizes that Buddy loves soccer. . .that is playing basketball. . .and he could be GOOD! Josh eventually makes Buddy and the faculty team is known as the Team Mascot. Josh and Buddy become the stars of half time. The half time talent of buddy attracts media focus. Unfortunately, when the me an former owner, Norm Snively of Buddy, comes along with a plot it looks like they are likely to be split.
