At the start of World War I, Paul Baumer is just a new German patriot, excited to fight. Indoctrinated in school with propaganda, '' he and his friends sign up for the army soon . But as his friends die or become wounded, as well when the horrors of warfare become a lot to bear, Paul questions the sanity of fighting a few hundreds of yards of wartorn countryside.
