Clarissa Dalloway looks back to her childhood as she readies for a gathering at her home. The wife of also a doyenne of the upper crust party scene of London and a legislator, Clarissa finds that the plight of sickly warfare veteran Septimus Warren Smith reminds her. Back in flashbacks, her chances are explored by young Clarissa by Peter.
