Paths of Glory - 1957

Throughout World War I, controlling officer General Broulard orders his subordinate to strike a German trench position. Though the assignment is foolhardy to the purpose of suicide, even Mireau orders their weak, Colonel Dax, to plan the strike. General Mireau demands the court martial of three soldiers that are random in order to help save face, If it ends in disaster.
