Homer is an orphan who was never embraced, becoming the favourite of orphanage director Dr. Larch. Dr. Larch imparts his full medical knowledge about Homer, that becomes a skilled, albeit stern, physician. But Homer yearns to get a self-chosen lifetime outside the orphanage.
