Only a tick from school, jimmy Rabbitte, gets a brilliant idea: to place a soul band in Barrytown, his slum home in north Dublin. He needs listeners and musicians: matters slowly start to see when he discovers three fine-voiced females virtually in his rear yard, a lead singer (Deco) at a marriage and, reacting to his advertising, an aging stunt player, Joey"The Lips" Fagan.
