A Thanksgiving dinner brings a host of family together in a Harlem apartment, at which a 24-year-old schoolteacher called Dorothy Gale (Diana Ross) resides with her Aunt Em (Theresa Merritt) and Uncle Henry (Stanley Greene). Acutely introverted, she's got, as Aunt Em teases her, and"never been south of 125th Street", and won't proceed and on with her life.
