Charlie Simms is students in a private preparatory faculty who comes from a bad family. To generate the amount of cash for his flight home to Gresham, Oregon for Christmas, Charlie has a project over Thanksgiving taking care of retired U.S. Army officer Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade, a cantankerous middle-aged man who lives together with his niece and her loved ones.
